Evita Griskenas and The 2021 U.S. Olympics
With so much uncertainty and changes in the world with the emergence of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic still continuing today, there is no doubt that today everyone are pondering upon the same questions. Will the 2021Tokyo Olympics happen? What changes would be made to the traditional world of Olympics as we know it? Will the pandemic affect any athletes that have been training to have their moment competing in their sport on an Olympic level their entire lives? Evita Griskenas is a member of the USA Rhythmic Gymnastics National Team that is a 3-time silver medalist at the USA Senior National Championship from 2017-2019 and the USA Junior All-around National Championship in 2015. On June 25, 2021 she will be trying out in the 2021 U.S. Olympic trials hoping to secure her spot to compete at the massive 2021 Tokyo Olympics representing team USA. . She has been training for the Olympics her entire life and If she were to secure a spot to compete, Evita would compete in her specialty of gymnastics: Rhythmic gymnastics. She would compete individually and do 4 events of floor routines that each contain a mix of apparatus to handle. Hoops, Ribbons, Ropes, and Clubs are some you could expect to see. Despite the pandemic, Evita has not let that hold her back from practicing towards her ultimate goal of competing at the Olympics. She has been practicing during this time in her basement and has had zoom sessions with her coach to help her prepare for it. Evita is super excited to possibly be able to compete in the Olympics because she quotes, “ There are not many chances to compete in the sport of rhythmic gymnastics and it is not a very popular sport in the USA.” The 2021 Olympics this year will be filled with all the athletes having to get constant COVID tests and the athletes having to give a lot of information of where and when they go places. It has also been said that no foreign speculators outside of Tokyo will be allowed to come and watch. Evita is super excited to possibly compete in the Olympics and is not letting a global pandemic keep her from experiencing that dream she has always wanted. Hopefully Evita is able to secure her spot to compete at the 2021 U.S. Olympics and we can see all that talent that she is able to bring to the floor.
