What writing means to me continued

Published on

Everyone has something that is meaningful to them in some way that they wouldn`t feel complete without whether that be an interest, talent, etc. An interest of mine that is very meaningful to me that I would not be complete without is creative writing. Growing up I always  used writing as my outlet to find my voice and fully say who I was through it. Creative writing was my way of using all the emotions I had inside me and letting them all flow out on paper. Creative writing is a huge interest of mine that is meaningful to me as people can see my heart worn on my sleeve whenever they read my writings.

To begin with, creative writing has always been a part of my life ever since I was introduced to it in the 4th grade. My 4th grade year was a huge year for me as I struggled to figure out who I was as a person and through my 4th grade writing curriculum, I started to gain a better understanding of who I was. My entire 4th grade year was centered on writing as this was the year, I learned how to properly write stories and used them to connect to my own life. I remember when I was always given a prompt to write about, I would always dig deep into my imagination and use all the emotion I had ever experienced such as insecurity, doubt, and use it to bring it into a full story on paper. My 4th grade teacher had really encouraged me to continue working on my interest trying harder and harder to get better at it every time. At the end of my 4th grade year I was awarded the writing award for the class. By the end of the year I had really developed a passion for creative writing because of the inspiration of my teacher.

Additionally, another experience of mine that continued to strengthen my love for creative writing was my 7th grade year experience where I got an amazing opportunity to showcase and develop more writing skills. Just like my 4th grade teacher, my 7th grade teacher also played a huge role in encouraging me to write and telling me again how I had great potential in writing. I remember people asking me in my classes how I was able to put so much thought into my writings and I would remember explaining to them, “I use a lot of my imagination and real-life emotions to help me create a story.” That year I had learned a lot of techniques for writing that really helped me improve. My love for writing from there only started to keep increasing more and more.

In addition to these two past experiences that really laid the foundation for how I started to love writing and why it became meaningful to me, there is another main experience that had taken place when I was in middle school that helped contribute as well to this. My 7th grade year had been a really rough year for me and I used writing to express what my emotions were that I was going through. I constantly wrote my own drafts of stories and every time I had written about my experience; it had made me feel better about what was going on.

Nothing compares to that feeling I get whenever I am writing. To this day it is something that still sparks a huge interest in me. I envision myself in the future writing my own books. It is something that puts a huge smile on my face that I would love to continue doing. Creative writing defines me and is part of who I am.
